Alumni – TREAL

In 2007, SMG was brand new just three people with no artists and no clear roadmap. One night in a club, Casanova Williams kept hearing a track called “Don’t Worry About Mine.” Assuming it was from a signed act, he asked the DJ about it and was surprised to learn it belonged to Treal, the biggest independent group in Orlando at the time.

Intrigued, Casanova tracked down their label owner, Ram, and pitched the idea that he could help secure a major deal for the group. At that point, he didn’t have deep industry connections, just drive and determination. After spending time with the group and building trust, SMG entered into a joint venture with Treal’s label.

Only three months later, “I’m Not Locked Down” dropped and it took over the Orlando scene overnight. The record became a club staple, a household favorite, and the biggest independent hit of the year. Its success ultimately led to a deal with Universal Music Group, cementing Treal’s place in the industry and putting SMG on the map as a label capable of breaking major talent even in its earliest days.
